Possible Side Effects of Radiotherapy
Side effects of radiotherapy may not occur until two weeks after starting treatment. Many people lose their hair, but the amount varies from person to person and the hair usually grows back after completing therapy.
The second most common side effect is irritation of the skin, dryness, redness, itching or tenderness in the ear skin and scalp. It is important not to try to treat this side effect by itself but just to seek medical treatment appear. Fatigue is another possible side effect of radiotherapy, and the best way to treat it is to get adequate rest, eating healthy and have the support of friends and family. Normal energy levels return about six weeks after completing treatment.
Among those receiving radiotherapy of the brain, is also common cerebral edema, or swelling. If you have a headache or a feeling of pressure, report your symptoms to your oncologist. You may be prescribed medications to reduce brain swelling, seizures, or pain. There may be more serious side effects when given chemotherapy and radiotherapy at the same time, your doctor can suggest ways to relieve these uncomfortable symptoms.
Other possible side effects are:
* Hearing problems
* Nausea
* Vomiting
* Loss of appetite
* Problems with memory or speech
* Headache
